Do the Wave

Jul 23, 2010 by rosemary

New Attitude wants to know what celebrity styles you adore the most and would want your look to reflect?

A recent poll conducted by Behind The Chair (Salon marketing company) indicated that the majority of you are clamoring for styles displayed by celebs Jennifer Aniston, Taylor Swift, Blake Lively, Kim Kardashian and Beyonce.  Their wavy, long, voluminous locks can’t help but draw the attention of everyone and these styles lead the pack.

Since most of us aren’t blessed with naturally wavy, luscious locks (and surprise, surprise – these celebs weren’t either!) the Stylists at New Attitude know the insider secret to help our clients achieve this go-to Hollywood style.

Come visit us today and request to speak with one of our talented Stylists to get this oh-so-fabulous look!

Hair to “Dry” For

Jun 25, 2010 by rosemary

Balayage – the latest haircolor craze to “sweep” the nation – is all about emphasizing hair’s natural movement.  So it goes without saying that the stylists at New Attitude Salon know how to maximize this movement through our haircuts.

What is Bayalage?  The innovative technique called Balayage, is a French term for hair painting.  This freehand placement of highlights, without the use of foils, allows for a more natural color application that complements and contrasts in all the right places.

When creating a cut on a Balayage cleint, New Attitude recommends a dry cut. First, we shampoo and condition the hair, then blow dry with a finger tousle for straight hair (or a diffuser for curly hair) to enhance the hair’s natural texture.  Believe it or not, we want to enhance your natural cowlicks, swirls and parting patterns to judge where the natural weight falls.  A Bayalage highlight works with the hair’s natural movement not against it.  Dry cutting is an excellent way to find details in the hair’s texture and complements the Bayalage look to a tee.

Curious if the Bayalage look is for you?  Come and visit one of our Stylists today for a FREE consultation!

Death of the Iconic Hairstyle

Jun 11, 2010 by rosemary

The Death of the Iconic Hairstyle?

Fifteen years ago, it was “The Rachel.” Twenty years before that, it was “The Farrah.” And those are only two examples of iconic hairstyles that have graced thousands of heads over the last hundred years.  But can there be another we ask?

With today’s trend toward individualism, many stylists are saying it isn’t likely.

In the past, it was very common to say, “that’s the trend.”  Now today, the trends are always customizable. You’ll never see them in their purity. Kids don’t want their MySpace pages to look the same, they don’t want their cars to look the same, they don’t want their phones to look the same. So why do we think they’re all going to walk in with a picture of Rachel’s haircut? It’s never going to happen again, because culturally they never participated in it.  The older generation did.  So that’s the thing that’s really cool about right now.

So where do we go for Inspiration?

Teen Vogue and other teenager magazines are a great place to look for what’s on the horizon.  Not necessarily what’s in right now, but what’s influencing the younger generation and what’s to come. They provide us with a little flavor to what celebs are doing right now, and it keeps styling in general a little edgy.

What do YOU our Clients Want?

It’s nearly impossible to try to nail it down to one thing, and the reality is, that doesn’t inspire the people we need to inspire. These “individuals” are people who are looking for things that are easily adaptable.

Opinion on Individualism

Individualism is what it’s all about right now, especially in fashion and clothing. Look at bags—from Marc Jacobs to Louis Vuitton to Coach. It’s such a wide spectrum. Ask anybody, ‘what is the in fashion right now?’ If they can actually give you an answer, we’re not that sure they truly know what they are talking about. There is nothing that will dictate what’s in fashion anymore. Consumerism plus capitalism plus everything that’s evolved from that, really opens the door for individualism. Whatever you can afford, whatever your style is, whatever you feel that’s what goes. There’s no one to tell you wrong. Not one is good or bad, they’re just different!

The stylists at New Attitude all exude this attitude and help each one of our clients find their own true unique look.  Come and visit us today!
